PROFILE:

Performs variety of complex technical and administrative duties and assigned tasks which require initiative, organization and independent judgment. Follows oral and written instructions and works independently in the absence of supervision. Operates standard medical and office equipment and computer, using Avimark, Word, Access, Outlook and Quick Books.

(CVT License)

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND DUTIES:

Venipunctures and make IV injections

Caring for hospitalized patients

Administration of medication and vaccines

Clinical laboratory procedures

Radiology

Anesthesiology

Prepare, administer or dispense medications, drugs and vaccines (all routes)

Collect and prepare blood, urine and feces for submission to lab.

Obtain TPR’s, weight, vomition, urination, defecation, appetite data

Recognize, report and function in emergency situations

Administer subcutaneous fluids and maintain IV fluids

Patient restraint

Remove and apply bandages, suture/ staple removal

Groom (baths, dips, nail trims)

Express anal sacs

Place IV catheters

Perform and monitor blood and plasma transfusions

Dental prophylaxis

Set up surgery

Assist veterinarian in surgical procedures

Preform endotrachael intubation

Function with minimal supervision

Anesthesiology ( monitor depth of anesthesia, use of inhalant anesthetic, pre- anesthetic medications, administer oxygen therapy)

Maintain/update surgical and controlled substance logs

Microscopic fecal examination

Preform total protein (refractometer)

Make and stain blood smears using Wrights stain

Use Idexx and Antech out-patient lab sheets

Position patients for thorax and abdomen radiography

Measurements of patient to decide machine settings (grid and table-top)

Perform common contrast media studies. e.g., barium swallow

Perform processing and use of automatic processor, and manual dip tank

Assist in all radiographic procedures

Operate autoclave

Mix processing solution

Knowledge of medications and usage, counsel clients on medications

Prepare medications for dispensing with proper labeling
